About the Show Where is the show filmed? The filming is done at the Lionsgate studio in North Vancouver, Canada. Much of the outside city filming is done in downtown Vancouver, and the forest scenes are filmed in parks and preserves in and around Vancouver. When does the show air? Dark Angel airs on the FOX television network on Friday nights at 8:00 PM PST / 7:00 PM CST. What is Project Manticore? Project Manticore was a US government research project centered around using recombinant DNA to genetically develop the perfect soldier. One of the people in charge of the project was Lydecker. The Project Manticore lab was located in Gillette, Wyoming. Manticore scientists in-vitro fertilized ova and then implanted each ovum into girls who would carry the baby to term. The girls used were teenagers and agreed to carry the babies to term in exchange for money. The babies born from this genetic manipulation were then taught at an early age in all manner of combat training, with a focus on teamwork and discipline. In Winter of 2009, the X-5 block of Project Manticore made a daring attempt at escape. Zack was the leader of the X-5 unit and his actions during the escape attempt helped Max to successfully escape. Ever since then, Max has done whatever she could to find out any information on the status of the other children who were in her unit. What kind of abilities/characteristics does Max have? Max has an enhanced tolerance for cold, superhuman strength, Flash-like speed, camera-like eyesight, photographic memory, excellent hearing, ability to hold her breath for long amounts of time, ability to function without rest, and she has mating seasons 3 times a year due to the feline component of her DNA. What is Tryptophan? Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, which means it is a substance that the human body cannot produce on its own. In the time before the Pulse, Tryptophan was used as a dietary supplement. While Max's genetic engineering did give her enhanced abilities, it most likely also had its share of side effects. One of these side effects is Max's tendency to experience seizures. Of all the remedies that Max has used to control her seizures, she has found that Tryptophan works best. On a scientific level, Tryptophan is a pre-cursor to the neurotransmitter known as serotonin. Typically, low amounts of serotonin have been linked to more aggressive behavior, more impulsive decision-making, and a higher probability of psychological disorders. By taking Tryptophan, Max is able to raise the amount of serotonin within her to a level that can control the severity of her seizures. About the Pulse Terrorists set off an electromagnetic pulse 80 miles above the US, which single-handedly brought it to its knees. An electro-magnetic pulse disables any electrical apparatus within its blast radius. Data stored on hard disks and other storage media (including financial information stored on a bank's computer) would be completely erased beyond recovery.
